Rio Prosecutors Launch CyberGAECO To Combat Crypto Crime
Rio's Public Prosecutor's Office has established CyberGAECO, a specialized task force targeting cybercrime and illicit cryptocurrency use. The unit, formalized on September 15, 2025, responds to sophisticated cyberattacks and the growing exploitation of blockchain technology for criminal purposes.
Prosecutor General Antonio José Campos Moreira emphasized the need for advanced measures against digital anonymity tools and VIRTUAL currency-enabled crimes. CyberGAECO will prioritize dismantling dark web networks, crypto money laundering, and organized crime financing through judicial actions and international cooperation.
The initiative reflects global enforcement trends where dedicated cyber units are becoming essential to combat financial crimes in the digital age. Rio's prosecutors aim to develop partnerships with both public and private entities while deploying cutting-edge technological solutions.
